Is there any way to check the insurance history of a car?
DMV records would show that, any insurance agent should be able to obtain thatYour current insurance agent will be able to provide you with that information. How can you not remember the insurance company? How did you pay them? I would look for the cancelled check that paid for the insurance. The DMV should have a record of the accident report which should contain the name of your insurance company (assuming you show your proof of insurance to the cop).
I also suggest you invest in a portable file cabinet and a file system....and actually file those important papers!!I would think you would remember...unless you've had so many accidents you get them mixed up!!! You should always keep a copy of the declaration pages that the insurance companies send in the mail. They list the effective dates of the policy. If you'd kept this information, you'd have your answer by now!

How can you get an Insurance Business started in this economical disaster?
Everyone is required to have auto insurance. And, those homes with mortgages have to have homeowners insurance.

You do not say what kind of insurance you are selling. And, are you licensed now or are you planning to become licensed? Do you work for a company or are you independent?

Good marketing has not changed. It is going face to face to meet people. Go to religious organizations, condo associations, businesses, gyms and any other place where you can meet people and introduce yourself. You just have to market yourself.

There is no magic button. It is still old fashion hard work to get and keep customers.

I am a contractor wanting to get into insurance restoration work. Does anyone know where I should start?
A great place that many people do not know about is a claims association. Many areas have a group called a claims association that meets usually once a month. It is a great place to meet and get in good with adjusters. The other place is agents and CSR's with agencies. I wish that I had a contractor that would come in and tell me that he was able to do anything from small job to a large job. Agents and CSR's (never forget the CSR's) are your best referralsThe best place to start is my contacting the Property Claims Mgr at insurance companies that cover your area. Most companies have some type of "preferred contractor" program.

They will probably have the following requirements (or similar ones)

Be a contractor for more than 10 years
Be more than just a one man operation
Be insured and bonded
Be a member of a contractors trade association
Require that you be willing to provide a written guarantee to the property owner after the repairs are complete.

Please be advised that doing this type of work for insurance companies will not be a picnic. The insurance companies will expect price concessions from you. Many property owners who have insurance claims are PO'd from day 1 of the claim and will make the whole process even harder. I strongly recommend that you talk to other contractors who are or who have done this before.

On a side note I know an individual who owns a small contracting company and he gets "leads" about possible repair jobs by "networking" his local service master office.

Good LuckSure! Have your marketing guy drop off pens, or nail files, or some other marketing tool with your name and number all over it, to all the local insurance agencies. BE SURE to have a certificate of insurance to show them, and it helps to have a "happy customer" reference list.

Agents and CSR's do the MOST referrals. Make sure they want to refer to you.Could you not start by simply asking your own insurance agent? I am sure they could direct you to someone who would be able to help.

No intelligent person can seriously take your argument as real.Or at least a PC with internet access like IlovefreegeorgeFred. And don't forget the Nikes for the whole family. Some truly cannot afford any of all that but those people usually qualify for Medicaid if they bother to sign up for it.

Check AARP.My church has a session once a month for seniors. (They do not have to be members of our parish.) All of the volunteers who assist are church members who have worked in medical billing or insurance related jobs.

Another place to check would be your local Senior Citizens Center or the Area Office on Aging. Even if they don't have programs themselves, they might be able to refer you to other organizations in your area.
